SEATTLE, Wash. (EMAILWIRE.COM, February 03, 2009 ) — Wildland Adventures has been selected to partner with the Americans for UNFPA (United Nations Fund for Population Activities; www.americansforunfpa.org) to operate educational fundraising trips to UNFPA program sites around the world. UNFPA provides women's health care and promotes the rights of women around the world. world. It is the largest international source of such assistance. Americans for UNFPA builds moral, political and financial support for UNFPA within the United States.

The Americans for UNFPA concentrates on specific issues that relate to women and children, advocating civil rights and liberties, health enhancement, disease prevention and promoting equal opportunity. Americans for UNFPA is dedicated to building American support for the work of UNFPA in over 150 countries. In many important ways, the AfUNFPA donor profile significantly overlaps with WildlandÂ’s client profile.

For over twenty years Wildland Adventures has guided travelers through fragile natural and cultural environments, creating innovative ways to support local people in their efforts to protect their culture, environment and communities. “We are honored to have this opportunity of contributing to Americans for UNFPA’s efforts to support the health and rights of women and to fight poverty and disease around the world,” says Kurt Kutay, founding President of Wildland Adventures. "International travelers can be vital philanthropic activists. These trips are designed for travelers who are a well-informed, environmentally concerned and generous vanguard willing to give their time, talent and financial resources to help catalyze efforts where the need is greatest — at the local level.”

According to Marcia Hahn, Executive Director of the New York-based AfUNFPA, “The purpose of our Donor Delegation Travel Program is to provide participants with an in-depth exposure to UNFPA projects, to give them the opportunity to contribute to the solutions, and to offer participants genuine insight into the culture, history and peoples of the regions visited, through expertly guided exploration and site visits.”

“After an extensive review process we selected Wildland Adventures as our travel partner for their record of safety and experience in adventure travel throughout the world, their longstanding commitment to giving back, and the exceptional reputation of the company among its customers and peers as recognized by National Geographic Magazine’s recent rating as the #1 adventure company on Earth,” notes Hahn

“Of particular relevance in operating AfUNFPA donor travel programs,” observes Adrian Chalker, Wildland’s Group Travel Director, “is that over the last five years philanthropic travel has grown exponentially. The educated and inquisitive discerning traveler is driving the trend for a personal connection to the ‘real’ world through meaningful travel involving some dimension of giving back.”

These trends among Wildland Adventures’ own travelers are supported by research at the Center on Ecotourism and Sustainable Development, a non-profit research institution based in Washington DC and Stanford University dedicated to developing tourism policy as a tool for poverty alleviation and biodiversity conservation, that also employs environmentally and socially responsible tourism practices. Chalker believes the growing interest in travel philanthropy is motivated by an increased world-sensitivity engendered by global warming, climate change, political issues and poverty, which is of greater concern in a declining world economy. ”These are the crucial issues of our day that are becoming a defining characteristic of the New Patrician,” Chalker concludes. ”World awareness and the need to do something positive is a significant motivator amongst clients that travel with Wildland Adventures and these people are part of the same market segment as the AfUNFPA donor base.”

The combined resources of AfUNFPA and Wildland offer a strong potential for increasing the amount of aid to support UNFPA projects and offering meaningful travel experiences for the aware, concerned and motivated philanthropic traveler.

More about Wildland Adventures
At the core of Wildland AdventuresÂ’ mission is a commitment to conservation and human rights. On a Wildland Adventure there are remarkably few barriers between travelers and local people, creating a rare authenticity of experience.

Wildland travelers can already choose to donate to womenÂ’s organizations (Tanzania, Guatemala, Malawi), orphanages (Ethiopia, Peru, Costa Rica, India), support local conservation projects (Amazon and Central American rainforests), and be actively involved in local community development projects such as village-based ecotourism development and water-well projects (Kenya), or AIDS related support mechanisms (Ethiopia, India).

In partnership with Americans for UNFPA, our outreach, in terms of contribution, and the ability to fulfill our client’s dreams of purposeful travel, has become infinitely greater,” concludes Wildland President Kutay.
