Kids Rule at Dude Ranches this Summer

(EMAILWIRE.COM, April 21, 2011 ) Cody, Wyo. Â– Summer is here, school is out, what do the kids want to do? The Dude Ranchers' Association has over 100 members across the western states and many of them offer programs for kids. Activities are catered to different age ranges with options from nature walks and swimming lessons for the littlest ones to over-night camp outs and trail riding for teens. Below are three examples from the Dude Ranchers' Association's list of over 60 ranches with kids programs this summer.

Â• Kids Wranglers at the Triple J Ranch in Montana will help kids and teens learn to to ride their horse for the week. While Mom and Dad are off riding the trails, kids can work on rodeo, build forts, hang out in an Indian teeppe, hunt for fossils, and try an overnight campout. Teens can choose to hang out with some of the older staff members and even help wrangle horses.
Â• The Little Wranglers Program at Wyoming's Triple X Ranch, will have the 5-12 year-olds tackling adventure. After a day of horseback riding, games, horse painting, wildlife spotting and swimming trips, kids can hang out and tell tall tales in their own dining room at the lodge. Teens can enjoy independence too with an overnight ride to an old cowboy camp.
Â• Sundance Trails Guest Ranch in Colorado has everything from group hikes and rock climbing to treasure hunts and "kids only" trail rides. While Mom and Dad sneak off for a romantic dinner, kids and teens can share songs and ghost stories around the campfire and campout in the ranch's teepee.
