MorrisonÂ’s Staff Look Toward Next Season

(EMAILWIRE.COM, November 11, 2011 ) MERLIN, ORE. Â– Snow is starting to fall in the mountains around MorrisonÂ’s Rogue River Lodge, heralding the end of another fruitful season. As they shutter the lodge for the winter, the river and trail guides at MorrisonÂ’s are already looking toward next May, when they will once again break out the rafts, canoes, and fly rods to make the most of a river that has more to offer each year.

A prize for anglers
The Rogue River is known to anglers across North America as the best salmon fishing river in the Pacific Northwest. It has garnered a reputation for its its Â“half-poundersÂ”: adolescent Steelhead that return to the river before mating season. These fish present a worthy challenge for anglers, and are a major draw on the Rogue.
On the upper river, the Rogue is home to many full-grown Steelhead, which range in size from 20 to 35 inches. For anglers who come to the Rogue to hook Â“half-pounders,Â” the presence of these larger fish is a welcome surprise.
Guides at MorrisonÂ’s have spent years fishing the Rogue, and have the skill to provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences to anglers of all ability levels. It is possible to fish the river by boat and by wading, and MorrisonÂ’s guides have become experts in teaching the relatively new technique of two-handed spey casting.

A thrill for rafters
While fishing has an honored place in the history of both MorrisonÂ’s and the Rogue, whitewater rafting has fast become one of the riverÂ’s most popular sports. In the spring and summer, the waters of the Rogue created rapids of all levels, allowing the guides at MorrisonÂ’s to design trips around all ability levels and interests. The lodge offers half-day, full-day, and multi-day trips on the river, as well as several that give visitors a chance to experience the wild scenery of the Rogue by land as well as water.
MorrisonÂ’s is now accepting reservations for a host of specialty rafting trips, each of which offer a chance to experience the RogueÂ’s rapids in a unique way. As its name suggests, the Â“Whitewater, Wine, Cheese & ChocolateÂ” tour pairs fine food and drink with the thrill of the RogueÂ’s rapids (though not at the same time, of course). Other tours provide raft-supported hiking or horseback riding, or explorations of the many creeks and canyons surrounding the Rogue.

All in the family
MorrisonÂ’s Rogue River Lodge was founded in 1946 to cater exclusively to fishermen. Sixty-five years later, the lodge is still family-owned, but has expanded its services to include guided rafting and horseback riding. Guests at MorrisonÂ’s stay the night in world-class facilities, and dine on meals from a kitchen that has twice been featured in Bon Appetit Magazine.
