(I-TravelNewswire.Com, September 08, 2012 ) San Francisco, CA – Recently in Heathrow, while working, a forklift driver smashed into an airplane causing damages estimated up to 1 million. This was purely due to confusion about the size of the baggage cart, according to the driver.
The driver named, Dennis Jackson, cut in through the rear end of a plane SAS Air Bus 321, when it was about to leave for Copenhagen, Denmark with more than 175 people on board.
After later inspection carried out the technical staff, it was revealed that his truck was just a few inches from the fuel tank. The force of this crash was so intense that a crew member nearly fell to the floor upon impact, according to telegraph.co.uk.
The forklift had cut through the end of the aircraft after which people testified against the driver that it seemed like a fire would soon start up and lead all of them towards death.
Anna McCabe stated: “The fuel line was just a small distance away from where the truck had hit the plane. Had it gone just a little further none of us would’ve survived.”
However, this accident was not due to the fault of the Heathrow airport, but because the driver did not follow their specified instructions. After this incident took place, the plan was immediately evacuated to ensure safety of the passengers.
The defendant in these proceedings stated that a huge mistake had been made on the part of the driver, but only because he had miscalculated a few inches while driving.
The driver has been working for the company since 2006 and said that it was a mistake on his part. Jackson, by the end of this incident, was fined 150 and the only reason why this sum was low is because the accident wasn’t on a main road.
A representative said: “All the passengers in the plane were given alternative flights to make sure that this hassle didn’t waste much of their time.”
