He turned to a contest that was sponsored by Gold Peak Tea, a Coca-Cola tea brand, which was offering an ultimate prize of a year off work and a $100,000 prize.

Mr. Scott ended up making it to the second round, of which then he created a video that Gold Peak Tea voted on. To his great surprise, he won the grand prize. He had felt as though he won the lottery.

The feeling was short-lived, however as days later Mr. Scott was informed that had violated the terms and conditions of the contest and was disqualified at once.

The reason given was that he used an online contest forum, where people can go on, post links to the contest, and ask people to vote for them. Mr. Scott had become a member of an online contest forum on About.com and made his statement to all the voters there. It is against contest rules to inappropriately induce members of the public to vote for a submission.

There are some situations where people do not always intend to break the rules, but who do not follow them correctly. Mr. Scott did defend his use on the forum saying that he did not see anything in the rules prohibiting someone from asking for votes.

Gold Peak Tea did choose another participant as the winner, despite the upset on their company facebook page. Mr. Scott has chosen to post a rebuttal on the Gold Peak Tea Facebook page, and since then has created a Twitter account supporting his cause, @GoTeamTheodore. He feels deeply embarrassed following this case.
