(EMAILWIRE.COM, December 19, 2012 ) Colorado Springs, CO -- The travel phenomenon that is home exchange or echange maison in French has now taken its rightful place in the world of travel. Dubbed as “hotel bills-free traveling” by those who have tried the idea, its popularity has spawned tourism despite the effects of the economic crunch. For these wise travelers, seeing the world for free is now the “in” way of globetrotting, making them save valuable money for other equally important things for them like exploring the place or buying souvenirs.
The unique experience of travelling under the home home exchange program has gotten a lot of savvy travelers hooked on the idea of exchanging homes with somebody from the places they are visiting as well. Tim and Mary D, property consultants from Washington, have found this idea fascinating not only because of the savings from hotel bills but the chance of living like a local. “Experience the place and getting immersed in their lifestyle is the real treat in a holiday. It’s is not like dropping by to visit a place, it is biking around the quaint community and talking to the locals. It is exploring the place in its pristine and pure state, undiscovered by regular tourists just yet,” says Mary.
Several TV stations, CNN included has reported on this idea about house swapping as an alternative way of travelling. In an interview by Gerri Willis of CNN, Ed Kushins of Homeexchange.com say people love the experience because “Home exchange gives a lot of people the opportunity of saving a lot of money on a vacation, to stay in a comfortable house instead of a cramped hotel room, and to experience an area as a local rather than as a tourist.”
According to him, looking at the photos in the internet should give us a pretty good idea of what to expect. However, it is also best to contact the people who have done an exchange there to get firsthand information of what it is like staying in that particular house for the holiday.
