Workers Should Take Advantage of Holidays For Their Health reports St John Villa Vacation

(I-TravelNewswire.Com, February 15, 2013 ) Harrisonburg, VA -- Workers who are looking for a new, and more scientific, reason to take a well-deserved vacation can now point to new research that shows that a quality vacation can improve one's health.

A recent study by the Holiday Health Experiment, which was co-conducted by a tour operator Kuoni and Nuffield Health, indicates that taking a trip to an exotic destination such as Maldives can cut blood pressure and improve sleep, as well as help the recuperating process from stress. The report of the research comes from the Daily Mail, and it states the benefits of a two-week minimum vacation can have enduring positive effects.

While 33% of workers do not use their full holiday packages every year, the Daily Mail reported that experts note workers should feel free to take full advantage of the time awarded in order to reap the benefits.

The study examined vacationers in Thailand, Peru, and the Maldives, and compared them to individuals who stayed at home to continue work.

The quality of sleep seen by the vacationers improved by 17%, while the workers deteriorated by 14% over the same period. The vacationers also recovered from stress, improving by 29%, while those who did not vacation saw a decline in ability to avoid stress by 71%, according to the Daily Mail.

Also amongst the vacationers was improved glucose levels, which remained lowered for two weeks minimum following their return home.

"It's apparent from our results that the majority of people feel happier, more rested and much less stressed because of their vacations," psychotherapist Christine Webber, who conducted the testing, told The Daily Mail. "But, even more importantly, I have discovered that these benefits continue well past the vacation - in fact, for months afterwards. I have also noted with interest that you don't need to lie on a beach to relax. In the experiment, the couple who went on the busiest holiday had the most long-lasting reduction in stress."
