Annual Survey Shows Americans Need a Holiday Every 11 Months

(I-TravelNewswire.Com, May 16, 2013 ) Grand Baie, Mauritius -- In a new survey released, it appears that women head out on vacation more often than men. According to the numbers, women vacation every 10 months, while men find their way to holiday only once per 12 full months, according to the annual travelers survey conducted by Spring Hill Suites hotel.

The survey noted that 50% of Americans enjoy a last-minute holiday, waiting up until the day before packing for their extended vacation. Men procrastinate such a chore more than their female counterparts, which is likely a shock to no one. Overall, 54% of men wait until the last minute, while 46% of women wait.

The survey was conducted in March by the Kelton research company, who polled over 1,000 Americans over the age of 18. There was a margin of error of 3%, plus or minus.

Travelers who have children in tow tend to go on vacation more often than those without children. The number of the former group nearly cuts the latter group in half, with eight months and 14 months being the respective average.

Nearly 20%, or one out of every five, who were surveyed stated that they feel the need for vacation within one month of a set routine being established. On average, those who are surveyed state they can enjoy their daily routine for nearly six months before they must have a holiday.

The numbers compiled show that over half of the Americans who chose United States' cities for their trips enjoyed “going off the beaten path”. Families were more likely to visit off-the-beaten-path destinations as compared to those who did not have children.

Over a third of all those surveyed used social media to learn about possible vacationing spots that they were previously unaware of.
