The mission of READ Global is to empower rural communities using a replicable model for sustainable educational, economic and community development that pairs non-profit libraries with for-profit ventures. The vision is simple-- READ Global has set out to change the world—one country, one village, one individual at a time. Now travelers can journey with Toni Neubauer, founder and president, to visit rural libraries in Bhutan with tour tour outfitter Myths and Mountains.
READ Global has set out to change the world. An ambitious goal? Indeed. An impossible goal? Not if you’re a visionary, tenacious, and focused organization with a team of passionately committed people. And not if you’ve designed a powerful tool to replicate globally. And not if you truly believe that change can happen—one country, one village, one individual at a time. Since 1991, when READ was launched in a remote Himalayan village by Dr. Antonia Neubauer, the organization has dedicated itself to developing and implementing a replicable model for sustainable rural development. Instead of a hand out, READ provides a hand up, partnering with rural villagers to build self-supporting library community centers that become the nexus of regional activity and development. With Nepal as its beta site, READ has demonstrated that such a model, properly executed, can give hope to many for a different future, change a country and has the potential to change the world.
Dr. Neubauer, is offering a new trip to explore the inner workings of READ. On “READ: Across Bhutan”, She will share the successes of the organization by taking groups through the communities and talking with the local people involved in the operations of the READ facilities. This trip only departs on Nov. 5, 2010, with a cost of $2,995 per person.
