(I-TravelNewswire.Com, June 07, 2012 ) Miami, FL -- Biosphere Expeditions, an award-winning volunteer wildlife conservation organization is offering travellers the chance to lend a hand to big cats and elephants in Namibia this year on a once in a lifetime volunteer vacation. The volunteer conservation organization announced recently that they will be expanding their existing conservation project in Namibia to include elephants alongside the other species they monitor.
Biosphere Expeditions is an international non-profit organization that aims at supporting the conservation of wildlife worldwide. Since its founding more than 10 years ago, Executive Director Dr Matthias Hammer and his team have added more destinations to their catalogue which encourages people of all abilities to get involved in the conservation of wildlife in destinations around the world.
The project in Namibia which runs in two-week blocks from July through November this year puts volunteers side by side next to biologists for a fortnight in Namibia to help provide them with invaluable data and information about the behaviors of predators and other species in the local area. The aim of the project is to provide local ranchers with information that can help them to protect their livestock rather than resorting to drastic and violent action against predators already listed on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) list of Vulnerable or Near Threatened species.
On the newly updated expedition, participants in the expedition will also have the chance to track and monitor the movements of elephants to study their impact on vegetation and how this affects the behaviors of both predators and game.
“The expedition to Namibia is a fantastic opportunity for participants to see and study African wildlife and giving something back to the local community and conservation efforts,” says Dr Hammer. “These types of ‘volunteer vacations’ are becoming increasingly popular worldwide as people are looking for something a little bit different to do with their time off.”
