(I-TravelNewswire.Com, March 04, 2013 ) Cedar City, UT---Fitness is more important than ever. Luckily, southern Utah has several outlets for people to get and maintain a healthy lifestyle surrounded by natural beauty and fun recreation.
Southern Utah has become a magnet for exercise enthusiasts due to the multi-terrain atmosphere and altitudes up to 11,000 feet which make for good endurance training. Event-leaders have taken notice and made the area a hot spot for sports and fitness.
The red rocks at Zion National Park are the perfect backdrop for runners during the Red Rock Relay on September 13, 2013. The race was one of the “5 Relay Runs to Travel For” by Forbes magazine. The 187 mile course starts on a chairlift at Brian Head Resort and stretches through national parks including Bryce Canyon National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument and Zion, until the finish line in Springdale.
Larry H. Miller’s 2013 Tour of Utah professional cycling competition recently added Cedar City and Brian Head to its list of 10 venues. There are seven first-time locations for the UCI-sanctioned event, which has been dubbed “America’s Toughest Stage RaceTM” including southern Utah. The first stage of the 600-mile cycling competition will start Monday, August 5 with opening festivities in Cedar City, and continue across the state for six days of racing, Tuesday, August 6 to Sunday, August 11.
For those who are less competitive, Brian Head and Cedar City offer more recreational activities.
Brian Head Resort boasts a healthy snowfall and avid ski and snowboard crowd from all over. The full-service resort contains 71 ski trails and three terrain parks covered in some of the driest snow in the state. The resort recently added the “Bag Jump”, a 50x50 foot bag that inflates to 12 feet high and is placed behind a new kicker to send skiers and riders into the air for a gentle landing. The BAGJUMP is perfect for beginner and experienced riders who want an extra push to be their best.
Mental fitness can be found at the OM Ranch in Cedar City for anyone looking to balance their minds and bodies. The Healing Center at the OM Ranch offers sessions from Kundalini Yoga, numerology, sound healing with Himalayan Healing Bowls and Gong to laser sessions addressing a multitude of issues including smoking cessation, stress relief, pain relief and chakra balancing.
